Diane Smith

Executive Director

Diane Smith, a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in the criminal justice system, assumed the role of Executive Director of Alpha House in March 2024. Diane has a profound understanding of contract administration, management of the incarcerated, management, and executive leadership, having devoted 26 years to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Post-BOP experience, Diane served 8 years in purchasing and contracting for Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. Diane’s academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work, with a minor in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of the social, family, and programming aspects crucial to the rehabilitation process. Her educational background, coupled with her extensive practical experience, uniquely positions her to lead and contribute to the success of the Alpha House program.

In her role as Executive Director, Diane Smith oversees the overall operation of the Alpha House program. One of the primary responsibilities is to ensure the effective implementation of individualized programming, a task entrusted to a dedicated team of full-time case managers. These case managers work under Diane’s guidance to tailor rehabilitation plans for each resident, addressing their unique needs and circumstances.

Tom Faulkner

Security Supervisor

Tom Faulkner started as the Security Supervisor at the Alpha House in 2021 bringing a variety of unique skills and abilities with him. Among his administrative duties, Tom manages a well-trained and dedicated team of security officers, maintains compliance with the Bureau of Prisons directives, oversees resident disciplinary process including disciplinary investigations and administers the resident GPS monitoring system. 

Tom is passionate in his desire to see individuals overcome and succeed through life’s different and unexpected challenges.  Graduating from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Criminal Justice Studies, Tom started his career path working in the mental health field as a case manager assisting chronic and persistent mentally ill individuals maintain their independence.  Growing in his desire to help others, Tom dedicated the next 25 years to serving as a law enforcement officer, both as a municipal police officer and as a deputy sheriff. 

Prior to joining the Alpha House team, Tom directed a local non-profit, devoting more than a decade of service to providing direct assistance for low-income families struggling with food insecurity and other basic needs.

Tom Faulkner’s education, background and experiences have provided him with some distinctive skill sets when it comes to meeting the core responsibilities of his position: supervising staff, directing resident accountability, and maintaining a level of community protection, but more importantly, those skill sets have adequately positioned him to help meet many of the fundamental challenges associated with residents successfully reintegrating back into their community.

Kelly Komodi

Employment Coordinator

Kelly Komodi comes to us with degrees in business and human services. She has worked for many years in the mental health field, focused primarily on social work in homeless services. Her passion and drive is to provide advocacy, resources, and support for individuals with unique barriers to long-term success. This is a natural segue to working with justice involved individuals.

Kelly is the Employment Coordinator at The Alpha House of Springfield. She cultivates and strengthens employer partnerships to provide a variety of resident employment opportunities appropriate to resident skills, education, and expertise to help ensure future success. She coordinates with community organizations to provide resources necessary for reentry into the community and organizes classes, both onsite and offsite, to build confidence and skills to enable residents to reach individual goals. Additionally, Kelly supervises a small team of employment staff and together they work one on one with each resident to help them obtain the most advantageous employment and acquire appropriate community resources for life advancement.
